The calendar for August features His Royal Highness Prince Namgyal Wangchuck.
His Royal Highness is the second Prince of His Majesty King Jigme Wangchuck and Her Majesty Queen Pema Dechen, and the younger brother of His Majesty King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
His Royal Highness has held various roles during the Reigns of His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. He served as His Majesty’s representative and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the first Royal Bhutan Armed Forces. He served as Minister for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Forests, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Health and Education between 1968 to 1991. He led the first Bhutanese delegation to the United Nations General Assembly in 1971, when Bhutan became a member.
His Royal Highness’s exemplary service to the nation, through some of Bhutan’s most challenging times, remains an inspiration for all Bhutanese.
